Sharp Teachers!

Tacks 7

With Teacher Appreciation just around the corner, I thought this would be a great time to {re-post} post this idea.

My oldest girls are turning 10 (TEN!) today {WOW} and it is Spring Break this week.
I’ve got other stuff going on, you know what I mean?west10 blog

(Besides, I’m still trying to figure out where all of these years have gone!)
Lani's quilt Olt-Art blog

But, I didn’t want to leave anyone craft-less (oh, the horror!) so here’s some inspiration for you!

Tacks Button

This is such a simple and fun project. The beautiful tacks and the sweet message telling the teacher you appreciate her or him will definitely be a hit. When I was teaching, I got a lot of apples (of all kinds), candles and bath products for gifts. I had to wonder if my students thought I was smelly or dirty! JK! I like to give my children’s teachers little gifts that are thoughtful—things they may really need or want to use!

covered button kits in various sizes
flat piece of cork
1/2 sheet craft foam
wire cutters
E6000 glue
fabric scraps
cellophane bag and ribbon

Cut craft foam to desired shape.
Tacks 4

Cut cork slightly smaller in same shape as foam and place on foam.
Tacks 5

Cut shank off of button backs with wire cutters.
Tacks 1

Cover buttons according to directions on kit.
Tacks 3

Glue thumbtack to back of covered button with small amount of E6000. Let dry for 15 minutes.
Tacks 2

Make a message for your mini bulletin board.
Tack message to cork with your fabric covered thumbtack.
Add others thumbtacks around the board.
Tacks 6Tacks 7

NOTE: Be sure tacks push through cork and foam.
You may want to add a piece of cardboard or another layer of foam just to be sure your tacks aren't poking through dangerously.
Place it in a cellophane bag and tie with a ribbon. Easy peasy!
Tacks 8

Now what teacher can’t use a few tacks?
Or a little note telling her you think she is sharp?

I have a whole lot of piles around my home currently. Some are boring mail piles and laundry piles, but there are also quite a few crafty project piles. I hope to get quite a few taken care of this week (or next, or the one after—my life as a procrastinator!) and share them with you.

But, today, I will be enjoying my {not so} little girls!
(I know, Alison’s eyes are closed—every pic can’t be perfect! ;)

Cute idea and your girls are so cute and individual in their style!

Just wanted to thank you for your post last week that featured Lisa's creations from Stubbornly Crafty -- in particular the monster applique. I contacted her -- got her permission -- and am using that applique for something that I'm posting today. Anyway, thanks for the features -- it's great to see new designs and be introduced to other creative blogs!

This is so adorable! Before I had my son, I taught middle school English and I got a ton of candles and bath products I love this idea because it's original, handmade, and useful too! The tacks are so bright and fun, and the message is one every teacher would love to receive. Thanks for sharing!

Wow...I can't believe the girls are ten! Where does the time go? Happy Birthday to your wonderful girls.

Thanks for the teacher appreciation idea. I got a note home from R. preschool reminding us of the event. I thought it was funny. I might actually try to be crafty. It has to happen every now and then right? :)

Hi, friend! You've got a lot of informative & creative posts so why
not show them off at the Creative Bloggers' Party & Hop? My co-host
this week is Amber from Lucky Lees To Be.

This is a combination of linky party (where we can show off our
creations) and of blog hop (where we can follow as many excellent
bloggers as we like), hence the name Creative Bloggers' Party & Hop.
It's a great way to meet awesome creative bloggers like you and
increase your followers in the process.

All you have to do is 1) link up whatever creative post you'd like to
share - can be a DIY project, decor, photography, crafts, recipes,
poem, thrift finds, tips, or that informative syndicated post that can
make us laugh, or cry - in short, whatever you're proud of! 2) Then
follow as many blogs as your heart desires, preferably starting first
with the one before you and after you, and leave a comment to them
that you're doing so.

You’re not required to include the party button – you read that right
– not required to include the party button but if you’re so inclined
to display it in your blog or your post, you’re very much welcome to
do so :)

See you at
