To change or not to change. . .

This year I am determined to redo some of the rooms in my house. The irony is that some of them were never finished to begin with. This is the first time we have owned our home and, for reasons I cannot explain, I feel like I have to get things “right.” I have finally realized that it isn’t about right, but about what I like and what works for my family. Now I want those rooms decorated!

So, while I've been working on my mantle, I realized I really need to get some other work done in this room. I have wanted aqua curtains in this room forever, but have been a little reluctant. I love my wall color and I love yellows and red with the color. Several years ago, I altered these curtains to fit that color scheme.
Gold & Red
Unfortunately, these curtains never really worked. I like the colors a lot, but I am not sure they really worked with the whole room. I also tried to make them “puddle,” but they mostly just got sat on when my children played nearby. But, I was scared to try something else because these were light and bright and that part made me really happy.

I have been looking all over for just the right shade of aqua and was really worried about finding what I want at a price I can deal with. There is a darker aqua curtain that I like at Target, but they never seem to be in stock. I have been to 4 different stores this week trying to find THE ONE. Instead, I got more and more frustrated.

Curtains are easy to make, but they are bulky. And, I need 3 yards of fabric for each panel so it can get pretty pricey by the time you get the fabric and the lining. This is one item that I often prefer to buy. So, I started thinking about choosing a different color. I was leaning towards ivory—easy and boring for this room—until I found these at Wal-Mart!

And,! Love the color and the price! They were at least half the price of everything else I looked at. I was ecstatic! (The color is lighter at home than it looks in the store.)
What do you think—do you like it? (Maybe I should have ironed them. I was so excited to try them out!)
Do you like it better than the yellow/red curtains?

I am thinking about adding another fabric to the top (like a wide border) so I can make it taller. It would add some interest at the top, but it might be too busy. I do have really tall ceilings in this room so there is nothing else up there at that height.

Something like this...
Delilah in Breeze
Any thoughts on that?
I'd love to hear what you think!

I like the blue better than the other curtain and I like the fabric swatch too. Something else you may want to consider is adding a band down each side of the curtain maybe 3 to 4 inches wide. This would also dress it up if that's what your looking for.

Although I like your original curtains, I much prefer the blue. Not so keen on the swatch but it's all down to personal choices. If you like it and it fits with the rest of the room go for it.

I like the blue better, nice and fresh. I love the fabric swatch as well. So pretty! xx

I love the blue way better than yellow.... but I am a blue fan. Also, I think the plaid red at the bottom of the old curtains was too country... not sure what your furniture is like, but the swatch you have would be very traditional. If you are looking for more modern, I would pick a different swatch.

I love the blue and I really like the swatch of paisley fabric. I'm wanting to redo the valances in my kitchen. Something 1940's inspired. I'll probably have to make them. My first foray into sewing curtains. :)

Tammy-we have the same curtains! Haha. I love it! I couldn't believe it when I found them either because they happen to be my very favorite color to decorate with and such a great price. I think they would look great with the added fabric. I've been thinking of doing something similar. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

No, no, no . . . make LOTS of throw pillows with that fabric swatch and maybe add another fabric to it!

I LOVE THE NEW COLOR...But I am drawn to serene colors myself. And I do like your swatch. But I wouldn't add it to the window...then you are locked in to it. Use it as an accent (pillows) if you are really in love with it and play around with the color scheme with accessories.
