Featured Guest: kreyv (and a giveaway!)

Hi! I'm Jamie from kreyv, and I'm so excited to be here! I am a stay at home mom to one year old Stella in the St. Louis, Missouri area. I am obsessed with before and afters, beautiful interior design, and constantly changing my house! Kreyv is a blog I recently started to keep track of my inspirations, cheap, easy projects, and a room redo here and there!

Tammy so graciously agreed to be my first guinea pig client for a new series on kreyv called [restyle]. This series will feature pictures and suggestions to restyle a space in a client's home. This is basically a mini consultation via the internet!

This is Tammy's beautiful fireplace and mantle. She wants to keep the clock off to the side and wants a year-round look--nothing seasonal. I have two solutions.

When dressing this mantle, I immediately thought of three things: groupings, height, and layering. Option one is to use the clock as part of a grouping. Use a tall picture or picture frame (which I think would look really great) to layer behind the clock. Make sure the frame is thick and dark to help anchor the clock. In this picture, imagine the clock being in place of the medium white frame. If you choose to center the entire arrangement, and are going for a simple look, add a smaller third item to the arrangement. If you chose to place the entire arrangement off to the left, create another, smaller grouping for the right side of the mantle. A grouping of candlesticks (add a couple more to the existing one) would look great. Keep it simple, not cluttered. (The image below is a little too cluttered for my liking.)
Option two is actually pretty simple since I happened to find the perfect picture! Place your clock in the same position as the mirror pictured below. Use frames or pictures to create a grouping next to the clock. Again, make sure you use dark frames to anchor the clock.

I hope you enjoyed my first [restyle]! I am offering three lucky She Wears Flowers readers a mini consultation. All you have to do is head over to kreyv, and leave me a comment telling me you are from She Wears Flowers. Contest ends Tuesday, March 8, 10CST. Winner will be announced on Wednesday, March 9th.

Thanks, Jamie! My {previously} plain and junk-gathering mantle is almost complete and looking so much better! I will show the before and after later this week so be sure to hop over to kreyv and enter the giveaway for a chance to win your own mini consultation!
{And, don't forget to come back and see how mine turned out!}

What a small world- up until this summer we lived right outside of St. Louis! Now we live near SPringfield (IL). I definately need to do some work on my mantle!

I really like the second idea. I can't wait to see how you restyle your mantle!
