Simple & Elegant

Mother's Day projects haven't been on the top of my list because I figured out what I was doing for my gifts several months ago. And, it isn't exactly handmade or crafty, but it is beautiful. I don't want to blow it before Mother's Day, though, so...

Instead, I made this gorgeous monogram vase. I love, love, love it. I did a little bit of glass etching a few years ago with a church craft project. It made me kind of nervous--I really didn't want to mess up. This time, I charged in confidently and it all came out just fine.

Supplies: The vase was purchased at Target (of course!) for a mere $2.99. It looks like a drinking glass in the picture, but it isn't. It is a tall, slender cylinder vase. I have had a vinyl cutting machine for nearly 6 months and forced myself to learn how to cut the vinyl instead of other media for this project. Very easy--of course! Vinyl is abundant these days and even a sticker would work for this if you can cut around it and leave the "negative" shape. Glass etching cream is a bit pricey, but a good purchase with a 40% off coupon at one of the big craft stores. And, it can be used again and again, so it is totally worth it!

Instructions (or here's how easy it was): Stuck on vinyl negative. Applied the etching cream following the directions. Waited 15 minutes. Scraped as much etching cream as possible back into the bottle. Wiped my vase with a paper towel. Removed the vinyl. Washed and dried the vase. And, voila! That's all there is.

Simple and elegant.
Just crying out for some beautiful flowers.
Wish I could take a better picture, but it was hard to get a good shot of the monogram on the clear vase. How do those photographers capture this stuff?

That's ok--the photograph had to be the hardest part because the rest is super easy and it looks so elegant for such a little effort. Think of the possibilities! I am seeing some more ideas for Christmas with this stuff...

I love this! I had an idea like this lined up for TTT but I have so much packed up. I don't know where anything is! I have one box I have given myself permission to open up but then I keep shopping too. I can't just STOP crafting. It would be madness. So excited I can leave a comment on your blog today. Gorgeous vase and reat mothers day idea!
